With Spain a top destination for tourists due to its vibrant cities, stunning coastlines, and rich cultural heritage, it's no wonder residential property is in high demand.
Tourism contributes 12% to Spain's GDP, significantly driving the real estate market. In 2023, the country welcomed over 85 million visitors. Some of these visitors will likely wish to buy property in Spain, becoming part of the 20% of purchases in Valencia and Marbella which are made by international buyers.
Spain’s strong residential market has performed well in a global context, especially within the prime market. Madrid and Barcelona lead the way, with prime property prices increasing by 5.4% in Madrid and by 3.3% in Barcelona in the year to June 2024.
Valencia and Málaga are also gaining attention. Known for its cultural richness, Valencia saw prices increase by over 11% since 2023, while Málaga, with its coastal lifestyle, saw prices increase by 43.4% per square metre in the last five years. Marbella has emerged as a top market, offering luxury properties and access to nature and sports, with international buyers accounting for 38.7% of property purchases in Málaga Province.
Spain remains a strong proposition in the global market, and its appeal as a destination for both living and investment shows no signs of slowing down.
